I'm impressed!

I'm impressed!

August 29, 2022

I have been serving on the board of Morningside Ministries for almost two years now.  At our board meeting last week, ladies from Oasis spoke to us about the programs and classes they oversee.  Wow!  I was impressed.  I was fully aware that Oasis is housed in a building on The Meadows campus of Morningside Ministries, but I didn't realize the extent and variety of the quality of the programs they offer.

The mission of Oasis is to promote healthy aging through lifelong learning, active lifestyle and volunteer engagement.  I love this because all of these things are becoming more and more important as we extend longevity with medical advancements.

Luckily, I am now (barely) over the age 50 requirement because I plan to take quite a few of the courses.  Here's a list of just some of the classes I plan to attend when time allows:  Tai Chi (always wanted to try it), Intermediate Total Body Workout (uses the barre - always wanted to try it), yoga and stretching (the best exercise as we age, in my opinion), All About Cancer Prevention and Clinical Trials (speaks to the importance of MEANINGFUL clinical trials), Foods of the Past, Foods of the Future, How to Write a Memoir, What's a Cubit?  The Story of Noah, Outlaws of San Antonio, Japanese Food, and more.  I'm going to stop here because, as I look through the course catalog, I realize that this is going to be a very long list.

They also do several day trips to places such as Mason - the gem of the Hill Country and overnight trips to Big Bend, etc.

Oasis has over 26,000 members in the San Antonio area.  Some of the courses fill up the first day of enrollment.

I'd highly encourage you to check out the course catalog - especially if you're in one of the latter seasons of life when it's extremely important to stay socially active.

The phone number for Oasis is 210-236-5954 and they are located at 700 Babcock Rd.
