According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the last year we experienced significant inflation was 1981. I don't know how many people have been born since then but it's a very large number, which means that a large percentage of the investing population, I've heard as many as two thirds, has never experienced inflation. Of the three broad investment categories - cash, bonds, and stocks - stocks are the only category that consistently beats inflation.
