As mentioned in my bio, I serve on the board of Morningside Ministries which was founded in 1961 as one of the first church-founded homes for the elderly in San Antonio. In what I call the "slowing down" season of life, a lot of people are faced with a tough decision when it's no longer safe to stay alone in their home. There are various options that need to be researched and considered, Morningside Ministries being one of them.
Morningside has 418 employees who server over 900 residents at two continuing care retirement and nursing communities in San Antonio and Boerne. They are currently developing a third in Monte Vista which will be senior living apartments.
The Meadows campus in San Antonio provides independent living, assisted living, long term skilled nursing, and post-acute care programs. The Menger Springs options are independent living, assisted living, memory care, transitional care, and skilled nursing.
In addition to residential and nursing programs, Morningside Ministries provides home health/ palliative care through mmCare, LLC, and free online caregiver education through mmLearn.org and YouTube.
Morningside also provides more than $1 million in annual charitable care and Medicaid assistance
Having gotten to know the decision makers and some of the employees while serving on the board, I think San Antonio is blessed to have this as one option to consider during what can be a difficult season.
