Most people answer a risk questionnaire once, when they open an account, and never think about it again. But the person who filled it out five or ten years ago may not be the person you are today.
Life changes how we feel about risk. A new grandchild, a move toward retirement, an inheritance, a health scare, or simply living through a rough market can all shift how much ups and downs you're comfortable with. Your timeline changes too. Money you won't touch for 20 years can be invested differently than money you'll need in three.
When your portfolio no longer matches your comfort level, two things tend to happen. Either you take on more risk than you'd like and feel anxious every time the market drops, or you're more conservative than you need to be and your money may not grow enough to support your goals.
That's why we check in on risk regularly. A short questionnaire helps us see whether anything has changed, and if it has, we can adjust your portfolio so it fits where you are now, not where you were.
If it's been a while since we talked about how you feel about risk, let's talk.
